10/05/2013 IBERDROLA, FIRST SPANISH UTILITY IN ET GLOBAL 800 CARBON RANKING
IBERDROLA is the first Spanish utility to be included in the ET Global 800 Carbon ranking, which is drawn up by the Environmental Investment Organisation and selects the companies that stand out for their commitment to bringing down greenhouse gas emissions.
This public body publishes this list with a view to providing information on the intensity of companies’ emissions, as well as analysing how transparent and effective they are in recording and disseminating this information. It also aims to promote sustainable practices and investments among groups worldwide.
IBERDROLA is the third utility worldwide after the National Grid and Eon and is included in this selective ranking along with other leading Spanish companies such as Telefónica, Inditex, Repsol, Banco Santander, BBVA and Amadeus.
The Group will be adding this accolade to other awards achieved in the same field, such as topping its sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for its policies focusing on combating climate change, biodiversity conservation, reducing the carbon footprint or promoting innovation and eco-efficiency.
The environmental dimension of its operations has always been a priority for IBERDROLA when planning its business. The company promotes innovation, eco-efficiency and the gradual reduction of the environmental impact of its operations.
One of the key measures taken by the company to protect the environment is its Annual Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, which has been certified according to the UNE ISO 14064-1:2006 standard. IBERDROLA was the first company in Spain and one of a pioneering few worldwide to quantify its carbon footprint. It has also obtained this certification from the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification (AENOR) for its emissions catalogue at Group level, which includes all of its operations in Spain, the UK, the US and Latin America.
